Craig Cares - A Startup Tale

The Background
A year ago, Craig Cares was only the dream of owner, Craig Falk. A man with a passion to do something that would make a difference in the world, Craig started Craig Cares with little more than financing and a great company name.

The Constraints
Craig had worked for a national pharmaceutical distribution company as a software development manager. He had a keen business sense and a clear capability in personnel management. However, health care management itself was a fairly new area for him and he was unfamiliar with the details required to effectively run a home care business. When he called in KS Consulting, he had rented office space and installed a telephone. The rest was up to us.

The Process
One of the KS Consulting principal's spent a week onsite, working out the details of the operating business model. In order to develop a model that was consistent with Craig's service philosophy, every aspect of the home care business was addressed. Direct involvement in the actual process of interviewing prospective employees reinforced the characteristics of a successful workforce for the home care/private duty business. The administrative policies and procedures were personalized for efficient and effective operating systems. All aspects of state and federal compliance were incorporated into the policies and procedures, as well as all the forms needed for employees and clients. Also included were how to effectively introduce home care services to the local community and how to attract the number and quality of workers required for the successful growth of the company. In addition, promotional materials were designed for initial recruitment and marketing needs.

The Result
A strong relationship has been established between Craig Cares and KS Consulting. Regular telephone calls keep us current and allow for creative idea exchanges, early course correction, and continued support for handling unanticipated issues. The practical and pragmatic approach between client and consultant has allowed a vision to be translated into a realistic and flourishing business that has grown into a private duty caseload of forty clients and profitability within a year.
